ABOUT

CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY

In line with our vision to be a leader in improving quality of life around the globe, we see it as our duty and obligation to take action to become a company with a positive impact.
For us at ILF, having a positive impact means giving back more to society, the environment, and the global economy than we take.
Following our vision, we firmly believe that as a company we can have this positive impact on the world to make it better than it is today.

OUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Our operations at ILF are guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which support the integration of our net positive commitment into our corporate culture and the services we provide. We are integrating the SDGs as a strategic guideline in our corporate development and are actively taking part in the fight against climate change with our Net Zero Roadmap.

At ILF, we believe that the climate crisis poses the greatest risk to our lives, prosperity, economic development and the reduction of global inequalities. At the same time, the fight against climate change – with the unprecedented transformation of the global economy – is also a great opportunity for our service portfolio. Recognizing this is both a great corporate responsibility and an economic opportunity.

ILF’s corporate sustainability focus is on both – but not limited to – our Race to Net Zero based on our Net Zero Roadmap and our Employer Branding Initiative.

NET ZERO

OUR COMMITMENT TO NET ZERO

We are committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2040, focusing on reducing our carbon footprint and prioritizing sustainable practices.
Recognizing the urgency of the climate crisis, we have developed a comprehensive roadmap to guide our efforts.
Our commitment includes transparent monitoring and documentation of our progress towards these sustainability goals.

I. Understanding of the Climate Crisis

Significance

We at ILF recognize that we are in a climate crisis, and we acknowledge the threats to all global societies that would result from failing to meet the goal of limiting global warming to well below 2°C, or to 1.5°C above pre-industrial temperatures as agreed at the Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris in December 2015. (IPCC SR 1.5 2018, IPCC AR6 2022)

Obligation

We at ILF recognize that carbon emissions must be limited to approximately 2.3 metric tons per global capita per year by 2030, and to 0.9 metric tons per global capita per year by 2050. This is necessary to achieve a stable climate with net zero emissions and to limit warming to 1.5°C. (United Nations Environment Program 2021)

Urgency

We at ILF recognize the urgency of meeting the mitigation goal of limiting global warming to well below 2°C, or to 1.5°C above pre-industrial temperatures. To achieve this, it is imperative that global emissions are reduced by 45% by 2030, with net zero emissions reached by 2050, compared to 2010 levels. As we approach 2030, it is crucial that those with the capacity to move faster and achieve a greater reduction by this deadline do so, aiming to reach Net Zero even before 2050.(IPCC SR 1.5 2018, United Nations Environment Program 2021, IPCC AR6 2022)

Action

We at ILF will continuously implement measures and actions to achieve our reduction targets and become Net Zero by 2040 at the latest. We therefore commit to the measures and actions presented in our Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Net Zero. The progress of our efforts will be regularly monitored, evaluated and transparently documented.

II. Roadmap to Net Zero

Collectively, across all companies of the ILF Group, we have set ourselves some ambitious targets to achieve by 2030 and have committed to becoming Net Zero by 2040 in line with the Science Based Target Initiative.

By 2030, we aim to reduce our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 50%, and our Scope 3 emissions by 40%.
By 2040, we aim to reduce our overall emissions by at least 90%, and to offset no more than 10% of our remaining, unavoidable emissions.

III. Measures

To achieve our Roadmap to Net Zero, we will implement measures, ranked by impact, starting immediately and prioritizing actions that offer the greatest reduction in carbon emissions.

Communication and Cultural change: Awareness raising and knowledge transfer on the urgency of the climate crisis and the relevance of sustainable development among all employees is the key element for a responsible corporate transformation process and to create the self-responsibility of each individual. Cultural change is essential for fostering an inclusive and progressive work environment. Implementing effective communication strategies and leading by example can significantly enhance employee engagement and loyalty.

Significant reduction of emissions from company vehicles: Reducing emissions from company vehicles is a crucial step toward achieving carbon reduction goals. Decarbonization of the car fleet and promotion of eco-friendly transportation options can greatly minimize the company’s carbon footprint.

Significant reduction of emissions from employee commuting: Encouraging employees to adopt their commuting habits and offering more sustainable commuting options can significantly lower overall emissions. Initiatives like carpooling, company buses, public transportation incentives, and remote work options can contribute to more responsible commuting behaviour.

Significant reduction of emissions from business travel by aircraft: Reducing emissions from air travel is vital for sustainable business operations. Switching to public transport for short-haul flights, promoting virtual meetings and optimizing travel schedules can help to decrease the environmental impact of business trips.

Reduction of emissions from electricity consumption, heating, and cooling: Energy efficiency and decarbonization of energy consumption. Own photovoltaic systems and storage units and optimized electricity consumption through smart solutions is key to reducing emissions. Implementing energy-efficient technologies and practices can lead to substantial environmental and cost benefits.

Purchasing of sustainable goods and services: Prioritizing the purchase of sustainable goods and services supports environmental responsibility. Choosing eco-friendly suppliers and products can enhance the company’s green credentials and promote sustainable practices.
